Atlapac Corporation is a leading contract manufacturer and distributor of pouches and bags as well as an officially licensed Inno-Lok® converter of pre-zippered films.

Atlapac, an American contract manufacturer of pouches, bags and Inno-lok® pre-applied zipper film, announces the arrival of a new high speed pouch machine, and new shaped pouch system.

Paul Unrue, Vice President of Atlapac commented, “We have seen substantial growth in our pre-made pouch making business over the last five years. We have added several lines, including Inno-Lok and even the ability to put spouts into flexible packages”. Atlapac recognizes that the capabilities they add for innovation or process improvements means the clients (they partner with) also gain that capability. “The flexible packaging market is ever expanding into alternative formats and package styles. We needed the ability to take a pouch and shape it to give consumers a new look”, added Unrue.

Shapes, spouts, slip/static dust innovation, full bleed, rounded corners, high speed and low scrap are only part of the innovations Atlapac will bring to a flexible pre-made package.

Atlapac, an American manufacturer of poly packaging, pouches and bags, announces the removal of several side weld polybag machines.

Atlapac has recently sold off the side weld polybag machines to make space for the explosive growth of other bag styles from within the organization.

Paul Unrue, Vice President, Sales and Marketing commented, “Our team decided that our future in contract bag making will need to be focused on our core pouch making business. With our stand-up pouch business (along with the back seam and fold over style bags) we convert, absolutely must be our main points of emphasis”. Atlapac recently sold several lines for “hot wire or side weld” polybag making. “We needed the space as we added several new high speed pouching lines to keep up with our double digit growth in that area”, added Unrue.

Paul Unrue, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, stated “we have a specific plan for sustained growth in the contract converting of pouches here. Atlapac, an American manufacturer of poly packaging, pouches and bags, announces the arrival of another new pouch machine to manufacture refill spouted pouches.

Early 2010, Atlapac will be offering spouted pouches as an option for the growing client base for contract converting. Refill spouted pouches are becoming more and more popular in the United States as an alternative to rigid packages for dispensing liquids. Several large consumer product goods manufacturers have already replaced rigid bottles with refill spouts.

Stuart Staeck, President of Atlapac commented, “we are proud of our growing relationships with our contract converting clients, and we felt that adding a spouted pouch line was essential to our core business strategy”. Mr. Staeck also added, “in 2009 we started our commitment to sustainability with our Terraphane line of bags and pouches, so it made absolute sense to now bring refill spouts to offer a sustainable alternative to rigid bottles”. Pouches use 40% less plastic than rigid bottles, and nine times less warehouse space (and landfill space) throughout its cradle to cradle cycle.

Atlapac, an American manufacturer of poly packaging, pouches and bags, announces the arrival of a new high speed pouch machine with full bleed capability.

Atlapac has added another high speed pouch machine with full bleed capability to assist its contract converting accounts with the capability to run ink “full bleed” and remove the plate break on a flexographic printed job. At over 100 pouches per minute, Atlapac can “strip out material” between impressions to offer a finished pouch with “full bleed” at high speeds. Now Atlapac’s contract converting clients can offer a pouch with complete ink coverage without the need for sleeves or “in the round” printing.

Paul Unrue, Vice President of Atlapac commented, “I spent 15 years selling flexographic printed flexible packaging, and at times would work with a pouch client accustomed to buying pouches printed rotogravure with full bleed print”. In the past, when selling flexo, converters had to remove the plate breaks by utilizing expensive continuous print sleeves in order to run the ink out to the edges.

Now Atlapac can remove the plate break (at high speeds) and offer the look of “full bleed” print. The new machine allows our customer’s to offer their customers an aesthetically pleasing finished product.

Atlapac, an American manufacturer of poly packaging, pouches and bags, announces the arrival of a new sustainable line of bags and pouches. These new lines are being marketed as Terraphane™. There are two current Terraphane™ products coming from Atlapac.

Terraphane™ B09 – A single layer of cellulose material that is truly compostable. These Natureflex films are based strongly on renewable resources and are fully certified to the European (EN13432) and American (ASTM D6400) norms for compostable packaging. In addition they have been proven to be suitable for Home Composting and will also biodegrade in a waste-water environment.

The test programs for EN13432 and ASTM D6400 confirm the suitability of a material for composting in an Industrial setting (e.g. via Municipal collection). In an industrial composting situation the conditions can be optimized for rapid biodegradation and a high temperature is reached (typically circa 60ºC)

In many countries, however, consumers actively compost their garden waste at home, either in Compost Bins or Compost Heaps. These processes are more variable, less optimized and the temperature achieved is rarely more than 2 or 3ºC above the ambient temperature. Under such conditions certain compostable materials will not biodegrade sufficiently. Terraphane B09 films however have been tested and approved to the ’OK Compost Home’ standard, which repeats the EN13432 test protocol at ambient temperature. They can  therefore be successfully composted in a Home Composting environment and will typically break down in just a few weeks.

Terraphane™ P09 – A laminated stand-up pouch with a degradable zipper and a degradable plastic. Atlapac developed this alternative pouch to offer a stand-up pouch that offers an outer web of cellulose plastic that is water based glued to a inner layer of degradable plastic. Even the zipper has this additive to degrade. P09 will not meet the compostable designation (B09 does), because it will not degrade fast enough to meet the standards required. However, under the proper conditions, P09 will break down eventually (10-18 months).

The plastic layers (and the zipper material) were engaged in several renowned testing laboratories to independently establish the degradability. The tests concluded that the films were degradable under short and long-term aerobic conditions and asserted that they would degrade under anaerobic conditions over a longer period of time. In addition, the tests concluded that the films did not produce any toxic residue harmful to living organisms in land or water.

“Due to the fact that Atlapac can run so many different types of plastic films, a sustainable line made immediate sense here. We wanted to be diligent in communicating the differences between our first two Terraphane™ products”, stated Paul Unrue, CPP and Vice President of Business Development at Atlapac. “The B09 is a single layer of cellulose film is our fully compostable choice, and the P09 is different because we can offer a stand-up pouch that will degrade”. “One (B09) goes away in a compost bin quickly and the other (P09) eventually goes away”, added Mr. Unrue.

Atlapac, an American manufacturer of poly packaging, pouches and bags, announces the arrival of a new Totani high speed pouch machine. This machine was purchased by Atlapac due to the overwhelming demand for stand-up pouches. The new Totani pouch machine utilizes 4-servo drives, which will enable Atlapac to increase pre-made capacity by up to 40%. This new machine will assist Atlapac to service its converting client base for the flexible packaging industry.

Totani’s unique (4) “servo motor control system” provides high speed stand-up or flat pouch making at speeds of 200 ppm, producing exceptional looking high strength seals. Totani’s original “Water Cooled” zipper sealing plate, supplied as standard equipment, provides an exceptional looking high quality zipper seal.

Stuart Staeck, President of Atlapac stated that they “have been converting pouches for about 10 years. Our recent choice of Totani’s CT series pouch machine was a rather simple one. Not only were we looking to add capacity with an additional production line, we also wanted high speed without sacrificing quality. Totani delivered”, added Mr. Staeck. He also mentioned that “this extremely robust piece of equipment will provide us with years of loyal service….. it just can’t get here fast enough!”
