In August of 2021, Atlapac Corporation, a leading manufacturer of bags, pouches and flexible packaging, has added another pouch line. They are also adding a new slitter, and an offline coffee valve inserter.
“Atlapac’ newest pouch line is 100% American made, and it runs recyclable/environmentally friendly materials. We already run straight COEX LDPE pouches on our lines here; but now with this new all servo pouch line we will be dramatically increasing our throughput and capacity plant wide. Plus, it will have enhanced engineering to run digital films, CR zippers, and other features” says Paul Unrue, President at Atlapac Corporation.
Atlapac is adding a new slitting machine to help handle the stock laminates they are now converting. “We added a solventless laminator last year, but quickly learned we need added slitting capacity”, stated Unrue.
Lastly, Atlapac is bringing an offline coffee valve inserter as well to help its toll converting clients. “We make flat bottom coffee bags here. We even put valves in on the current line while running, but due to demand, and that some of our clients want standard pouches with valves, we decided to add this offline system to our repertoire”, stated Unrue.
Atlapac has 30 quality and food safety programs in place, the following are some of the programs: Document Control, Management Audits/ Monthly Audits, Good Manufacturing Practices, Pest Control, Chemical Control, Storage and Handling, Training, Quality Control, Customer Quality/Complaint Management, Traceability, Hold and Release Protocol, Glass and Brittle Plastics, Sanitation and Maintenance. Atlapac is committed to making food safe products for all customers. Atlapac is a certified SQF facility.

On The Forefront
Atlapac, based in Columbus, Ohio, is a leader in cannabis packaging. In 2014, Atlapac began producing child safe exit bags for POS transactions. Legalization has continued to grow across the country and does not show any signs of slowing down. Therefore, we have continued testing with the goal to provide the highest quality packaging available. We now stock four sizes of child resistant primary packaging. In other words, this packaging line is aimed at assisting flower and individual item sales versus a bulk exit bag with an inner container needed. In turn, the goal is to provide an effective protective package for these goods while cutting down on the amount of packaging items needed.
Putting the Safety of the Children First
Our material is opaque and extremely tough. This is to deter children from attempting to enter the package. Atlapac then adds a press-to-close child resistant zipper. This zipper is easy to use and more durable than other options available in this packaging category. With the combination of specialized film and zipper, these bags meet the regulatory requirements in accordance with ASTM standards. “These bags are more durable and have a greater child deterrent factor than the vast majority of bags that are available in the child resistant packaging market. Let us send you some samples of these bags to compare to your current packaging and you will see why we stand behind our product” states Mike Bergstrom at Atlapac.
The Future of Cannabis Packaging
Cannabis growth potential is unknown at this point in time but one thing for sure is that it is increasing at a rapid rate. Businesses should take this opportunity to work towards proper packaging prior to it being mandated. Each state has slightly different requirements but in general, the packaging must: contain a warning of the products inside, not be appealing to children, be opaque with a resealable child resistant closure, and be accessible for adults. In addition, any packaging that does not meet these expectations will begin to be phased. “Businesses should value the safety of children over the easy or low cost packaging option” stated Mike. Needless to say, moving into 2021 consumers will demand more. They will expect that their packaging will prevent their kids from inadvertently consuming their cannabis products. Our goal is to be that piece of mind for our clients.
